Basic information on technical specifications (Traditional)

What are the system requirements for Bigfoot on my PC?

Bigfoot has relatively low minimum system requirements: Windows 2000 or XP, 32 MB RAM (64 recommended), 54MB free hard-drive space, and a SVGA (800 by 600) are the basic requirements.

What are the system requirements for Bigfoot on my server?

Bigfoot has a light footprint on your file server. You do not need to install anything on the server, but can instead copy the needed databases to a folder where each workstation can "see" them. Once databases are on the server, a setting in the utilities of each workstation can be established to "point" to the server for access to the shared database.

Plan to have at least 25-50MB free hard drive space as your database grows. Please note, if you plan to use the SQL Server version of Bigfoot, it is your responsibility to make sure you have SQL Server 2000 (or higher/compatible) properly installed and set up. We will assist in setting up the database, but assume you have knowledge of the SQL Server operation.

In what computer language is Bigfoot written?

Bigfoot is written in Visual Basic and Active Server Page. It uses several standard third-party controls. Our install is written with Install Shield.

What is the database behind Bigfoot?

We offer both MS Access and SQL Server database back ends. You can open up the database if trained in Access or SQL Server to perform specialty analysis and or reporting as long as you do not interfere with the integrity of the database. For SQL Server we are compatible with SQL Server 2000, 2005 and higher/compatible. For Access we are Access 2000 or higher/compatible.

Does Bigfoot have to be installed on my PC?

Yes and no. A standard C: (or D:) install is recommended for Bigfoot. It is possible to use Windows Terminal Server or Citrix technology if you are familiar with this. Smartware Group can only support the traditional install, but we have several customers that do these more advanced installs.

Does Bigfoot Request Utility have to be installed on my PC?

Yes and no. A standard C: (or D:) install is recommended for the request utility. If trained, you can also install it on your application server and put a shortcut icon from each workstation.

How does your network license work?

Our standard network version comes with five licenses, allowing you to install Bigfoot on up to five PC's. Each PC can have simultaneous access to the database, and each PC can allow multiple people to log in with their own code. For example, a shop may have a single PC shared by several employees. Everyone can have his or her own login code. If you need more PC's/licenses, you can call in and order additional licenses in minutes.

What are the requirements for your On-the-Go technology?

OTG works with Palm-compatible PDA's. This includes brand names such as Palm, Handspring (now Palm), Sony, and many other well-known manufacturers. Palm OS4 is the minimum, but we recommend Palm 5, which is much faster. The PDA must have at least 8MB of RAM. Data is synchronized using "Hotsync,” the same technology used to synchronize normal information with your Palm-based PDA.
